Miles Umina, Assistant Fire Chief
Lisa Lloyd, Clerk
There is a quorum and the agenda was posted on 6-14-11 to comply with the open meeting law.
Paul D. made a motion to approve the minutes of May 16 and May 19; seconded by Kevin. All voted in favor.
A request was received for PFD to send a piece of equipment to the fire in AZ. A crew went and spent 14 days there. Kerry feels that fire season will be much worse before the end of the summer. There is some discussion concerning the need to get the weeds cut down, especially the cheat grass, around residences in order to avoid fires. Kerry advised that two young men who are red carded from Alamo and Caliente have been working for PFD. There have been a couple of bad accidents and a structure fire. Things are going well.
Paul D. made a motion to approve the vouchers as presented with the exception of Mountain Mercantile and LC Telephone; seconded by Kevin. All voted in favor. Kevin made a motion to approve the LC Telephone vouchers; seconded by Paul M. Paul D. abstains. Motion carries. Paul D. made a motion to approve the Mountain Mercantile voucher; seconded by Paul M. Kevin abstains. Motion carries.
Kerry advised that a request has been received to donate old fire equipment. PFD has a couple of old pieces of equipment they are willing to donate to another public entity, including an old Dodge pickup with a utility bed and an old fire truck that needs some work. Paul M. made a motion to approve the donation of these two pieces of equipment; seconded by Kevin. All voted in favor.
Tommy called for public comment. Tommy commented that the disaster drill results were far from good, in spite of the fact that it met state requirements. PFD was aware of all situations of the drill and that defeats the purpose. Kerry disagreed as it is set up for training so that they can prepare. Kerry commented that PFD didn’t go out and train, but they discussed it in the same way that they do fire training. These drills are made for training and Kerry felt the results were great. Communications went very smoothly. There are areas that PFD doesn’t want people to know and there are always variables that can change and surprise the firefighters. While preparing for the known, they are also preparing for the unknown.
There being no further business for the Board to attend to, Tommy adjourns the meeting at 11:09 a.m.
